Six fois champion du monde en 250cc (en 1964, &agrave; 21 ans, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 et 1972 ; 2eme en 1965, 1966 et 1967). Auteur de 50 victoires en Grand Prix (toutes en 250cc), record qui tiendra plus de 30 ans avant d&#39;&ecirc;tre d&eacute;pass&eacute; par son compatriote Stefan Everts.
