Skateboard history
Skateboard
History
The "skate" was born in California in the 60s, inspired by some surfer who had the idea to set a small plate with roller skates clay. Derived directly on the surf of California to thirsty passion day without waves.
The first followers practiced on the seaside but quickly evolving skateboarding in urban areas. The boards are improved by the use of urethane wheels making them safer and less noisy.
The wave of skateboard arrives in France in the 70s. The Trocadero in Paris becomes the new "Mecca" of skateboarding and discipline enjoys wide media coverage. In 1977, the Ministry of Youth and Sports officially recognized the sport and its connection to the French Federation of Surf.

In 1995, surfers no longer wish to keep them within the skateboarding activity and ask them autonomy. A National Committee Skateboard is founded in 1996 and has 65 clubs for some 1 633 licensees. Since then, we witness the birth of many clubs aimed initiation, supervision and training of youth.
In 1997, the National Skateboard took the name National Commission Skateboard within the French Federation of Rollerskating.
Since 1998, this commission is headed by former discipline as Raymond Thomas.
The first official world championships were held in 1977 in California. There are European Championships since 1980.
In the 90s many "skateparks" or place of practice of skateboarding were based all over France. Currently there is a circuit "Coupe de France", a championship of France (comprising the top 40 ranking Cups of France). Major festivals include: the "Bowl Rider" in Marseille bringing the best "riders" to discipline the "FISE" Palavas, an event that brings together many board sports like skateboarding, inline skating, wakeboarding and flysurfing.
The "windskate" or "surfing city" is one of the last-born of the sport or the skate is driven by a sail. It can reach 10 km / h
The record reached on skate speed is 108 km / h.
The record reached on skate jump is 58 feet or 17.63 meters, set in 2001 by the American Brian Patch. The previous record was 52 feet or 15.849 meters by his compatriot Andy Mac Donald.
Some dates to remember:
1962 The California surfer Mickey Munoz in the continued absence of waves, of rollers installed in a board to "surf the asphalt.
Arnaud de Rosnay 1962 introduced the first skateboard in France. This method is called when the roll-surfing.
1965 Arnaud de Rosnay Joel and his brother organized the first championship in Hossegor France.
1973 Two Californians, and Bobby Frank Nashorworthy Bahn, create the urethane wheel in silence and providing security. The roll-surfing becomes skateboard.
1974 The skateboard is part of the French Federation of Surf.
1978 There are 6 500 licensees. The dominant disciplines are slalom, high jump and freestyle.
1979 The first ramps appear on the California coast.
1989 550 000 plates sold in France. New disciplines developed in competition such as the mini ramp and street.

Equipment
The skate takes place on a plate (average length: 50 cm) mounted on wheels and fitted with ball bearings. There are several disciplines such as slalom board with a flexible and thin (70 cm long) or the speed with a rigid board.
The plateau, composed of 7 thin slices of compressed wood, has a concave shape with the ends 2 games recorded called "nose" and "tail". The upper plate is coated with a non-slip grip called. Some boards also have a plastic liner below to perform some tricks.
The wheels are made of urethane, their diameter is between 40 and 60 cm. Hardness expressed as 'shore' varies between 80 and 95 A. Each wheel has 2 bearings.
The truck is part of the director who allows the skate wheel fixing to do. The setting is provided by a base from which emerges an axis on which moor gums and harnessing system axis wheel.
The protections are essential to practice skateboard knee pads, elbow pads and helmet.
Infrastructure
Street
Urban space brings many participants who use the skate as a means of transport. The scene of major cities gathers at sites called "spots" where there are several categories of modules asphalt or concrete, surrounded by curved steps or ramps. A good "spot" is one that can evolve into various techniques of "street-style".

Modules

The evolution of skateboarding in the street has developed the idea of recreating its own "spot" by building wooden modules easily transportable to places offering security and comfort. One can distinguish the following modules:
The steps involved in a "fun-box" used in
iduellement they are traversed in the longitudinal direction for slides or rolling.
The "bars rocks" are steel tubes often associated in pairs in a rigid structure to fix the ground. They may be straight, bent, sloping or designed to represent a flight of stairs. This structure offers various developments in the field of "slides".
The quarters are quarter-ramps. These are often large modules, allowing the introduction to fixed transitions (ramps, parks, bowls).
The banks are small modules that are defined in relation to their use. All these last 2 categories form the essential components of a "street area".
There are two kinds of ramps: mini ramps characterized by the absence of vertical ramps and major with at least 30 inches vertically after the transition.
The different disciplines
The ramp
It is defined as a combination of 2 curved ramps, connected at their base by a plate. A ramp has a vertical edge which ends in a "coping". This is the most spectacular discipline. The sports figures bind air above the coping. The duration of the transition or "run" depends on the mode of selection. Qualifications for the championships, each participant makes his way in
iduellement. In the finals, there is a choice or in
iduel or jam session.
The mini ramp
It is also a set of curved ramps, connected at their base by a plate. Each end is less than the vertical and ends with a coping.
The street
It is the discipline that concerns 80% of practitioners. In competition, the skaters evolve a set of modules placed on flat ground, to cover the entire surface and allow a rational use of modules. The modules are placed in complex and surrounded by ramps. This provision provides an initial speed skater.
Slalom
Similar to ski when the doors are symbolized by cones or plastic studs, red and blue. The skateboarder is penalized if it reverses a stud. It differs in that discipline:
The parallel runs on a smooth track 30 to 60 m (altitude 0 to 4%). The equipment consists of a clock with a moving barrier to and a photocell at the finish.
The special takes place on a slope ranging from 0 to 7% with a fence for a length of 60 to 100 m in cash from 40 to 50 plots.
The giant that runs on a slope ranging from 0 to 4% slope for a length of 100 to 300 m in cash from 50 to 60 plots.

The descent
This discipline takes place on slopes ranging from 7 to 15% slope for a length of 300 to 1 000 m.
Good to know
They say that skateboarding is "regular" when he puts his left foot in front near the nose. It is "goofy" when he puts his right foot in front of the skate.
